Style File | Mustard, Lace & Burgundy

Afternoon my loves!

Here is my first fashion post of many more to possibly come while I'm pregnant. I've been asked to share some tips and looks since I am pregnant...six months pregnant to be exact. A lot of females feel like they can't be fashionable or dress up because of a baby bump. That's a lie! I will say, at first I felt that way because nothing...I mean ABSOLUTELY NOTHING in my wardrobe really fit me. Either they were too tight, too small or too big. I mean I literally had to take a full day and physically try on my clothing to see what I could wear these last 3 months and I wanted to cry. I don't look big by any means and I've only gained 13.5lbs so far, but seeing my clothes not fit me was terrible...mostly because this was an unplanned pregnancy (but my fiance and I are happy)

Nonetheless, my fiance has been taking me shopping and I've had some pieces that were originally to big for me before I was even pregnant so now I can rock them. With the Holidays coming up and my baby shower, I plan to dress to impress and to still feel like myself!

When I first found out I was pregnant, I knew that I would have a winter baby, so I already stated to myself that leggings would be my key bottom piece in my wardrobe. Sort of my maternity staple because it grows with my belly, it's comfortable and I don't have to worry much about out growing them as I get bigger.

The outfit I put together at first didn't look right to me, but once I put it on and looked in the mirror I was completely happy with the outcome:
6 months pregnancy and fashionable!
I've been dying to wear this top for a long time and I always wanted to pair mustard and burgundy together for fall because they look amazing together.

Here's a video I put together on YouTube showing the full outfit with my two footwear options and in depth details about where I got each piece from...

I will say, I've had that mustard top for over a 1 year or two and never wore it because I was so small, but with a growing belly it fits like a glove and definitely accentuates my growing bump and expanding curves.

Fashion Icon | Angela Simmons

Hey everyone,

It's Fashionista Wednesday which means I get to share my fashion insight with you all. Most Wednesdays I will have outfits of the week posts, fashion hauls and how I style trends and items, but until then I'll be posting my fashion inspirations. With these upcoming posts you will see what designers, celebrities and people inspire me and my sense of fashion.
The first fashion inspiration is Angela Simmons. I am in love with her style for many reasons due to the work that she and her stylist, Kanayo Ebi, create together.

Taylor Swift's Fashion Spread in Elle Magazine

Happy Hump Day everyone!

Hopefully your week is going great so far. Me, I'm trying to keep a positive outlook on life despite my situation. Got to find a way to keep active until this is over. I'll be happy to go back to work soon.

This post is a fashion based post which is rare on my blog, but I figured since spring is near that I should start doing more fashion posts as I plan to be a bit more involved with fashion come this spring and summer. Now I have subscribed to a few of my favorite fashion magazines such as Vogue, W Magazine, Harper's Bazaar and Elle Magazine. While I was browsing my March issue of Elle and saw the spread Taylor Swift did. I'm not much of a fan, but lately I've been enjoying her music. Anyway her spread was absolutely amazing and I wanted to share it with you all.

If you plan to get your hands on the magazine, check out page 411 and pages 426-33. She definitely did look like a model and pulled each look off amazingly.
This first look I thought was completely punk rock. She was styled in Burberry Prorsum from head to toe. She wore a metallic leather and jersey bonded bomber jacket in multi-colored green ($3,595). A purple stretch satin bustier ($1,095) with black stretch twill pants ($1,095) and red satin peep toe wedges, $675. As expensive as this outfit is...it definitely speaks volumes.

Shake Your Tambourine with Proenza Schouler

My loves, my loves, my loves...

I know I'm gone, but I figured I could do this post while I'm at the hotel!!! This is fashion related post on a bag that I would die to have in my closet! It was seen on the runways for Spring 2013 and I absolutely love it. It is a bit off, but it would be amazing when styled correctly...

I'm speaking of the Tambourine Bags by Proenza Schouler.

You can make all the noise in the world shaking these babies! Whether you're living on the wild side or edgy. there's a bag for you!

For Proenza Schouler's spring collection, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez focused on the coolness of a collage and making it into a fashionable piece. From patchworking different hues of python into a vest to fashioning jackets from contrasting squares of leather to juxtaposing digital prints for graphic dresses. These bags are definitely a work of art.

The tambourine bag were created with a combination of elements...

13 Easy Styling Tips

Happy Monday loves!

Ever wanted to find a sure fire way to style your ordinary outfits or spice up your favorite pieces or outfits? Well today, I am going to give you 13 quick and easy sure fire styling tips that will help you look amazing in the same outfit numerous times!

Here are my quick tips ....

Number 1 - Accessorize and tie a scarf on it!
A pop of leopard print lends a trendy vibe to a classic blazer and mini dress or that on the go pair of jeans and tank.

Number 2 - Remix a cardigan.
Instead of wearing a cardigan the basic way, pair it with a nice pair of skinny jeans, heels and a clutch. Button it up and belt it with a belt. Your cardigan will feel refreshed and look stylish.

Number 3 - Cuff your jeans.
On printed, colored or denim, a quick roll of the hem shows a bit of skin and your pretty heels too.

"Building" My Wardrobe

Lately, I've been feeling like I need to really rebuild my wardrobe and I've been finding it a bit hard to do so. I have comprised so many list of basic and key pieces that I need in my wardrobe, that I've decided to share a few of them with you all in case any of you want to rebuild your wardrobe as well.

Now keep in mind, these are my opinions on what key pieces should be in your wardrobe when rebuilding it because they go with just about anything and can be dressed up or down...

numero uno - Light Blazer
Structured linens and cotton blends in anything from brights to stripes. I'm looking for colors like pink, white, mint, blue and stripped detailing to give my basic looks some life.

numero dos - Knee-Length Skirt
Pencil shapes or bouncy a-lines with not too short hems. These are perfect for work, nights out and those who attend church, like myself. They can be solid colors or printed.

numero tres - Crisp Shirt

6 Universally Flattering Pieces

Morning my loves!

Here to do another "Universally Flattering Pieces" fashion post for you all. Before I did five universally flattering pieces, but this time I decided to do six. These are staples that every female should have in her closet -- now I'm not saying it's a must, but overtime you will acquire these pieces in your wardrobe at least once or twice.

Without further babbling -- here are the six universally flattering pieces...

#1 - Leather Cross-Body
This medium size bag works with you, whether you're petite, like myself, or tall. You can get it in a basic color such as black, white, gray or brown. You can even be outstanding with a neon, floral or printed cross-body. The straps aren't overbearing because they are thin. Perfect piece to own and I'm currently working on owning one myself.

#2 - Classic Peacoat

Alexander McQueen Fall 2012 Ad Campaign

Afternoon my loves,

Today is such a crazy day with Hurricane Sandy coming around. My town has been under some crazy stress and I live by a river. It's only been wind action causing issues with power, I'm hoping that Sandy doesn't cause so much damage...but I pray everyone is doing okay.

To liven up the day and this week I'll be doing a few fashion based post on some fall 2012 ad campaigns. I've been really intrigued with these ads and decided to share it with you all. Hope you all truly enjoy it.

The first ad campaign that I've been loving is the Alexander McQueen ads -- his line is just pure gold for me. It's always out of the norm, colorful and fashionable. Truly love them.

Get Ready For Fall | Boyish Shapes

As you all now, I started a series in which I give tips on getting ready for fall for all body shapes. The previous post I did was on Curvy (hourglass) shapes so this post is going to be about Boyish body shapes. As stated in first post, these are just some tips on what to start looking for and thinking about as clothing is available for the Fall.

Some celebrities that you can look to as a "guide" include: Charlize Theron, Gwen Stefani and Eva Longoria.

The main tip that I can give to you boyish shaped darlings is this: create curves with smart and super trendy design details such as peplum hems, color-blocking, drapes and much more.

For Dress
  • Try dresses with waist and side panels to give the illusion of an hourglass figure.
  • Dress with an a-line skirt and pleats adds to your hips.
  • Bodycon dresses will look amazing and really show the slight curves you have by building "more" curves.
  • Dresses that cinch your middle helps to carve out a waist

Get Ready For Fall | Curvy Shapes

Hello my loves!

Today is going to be the start of my fall series for body shapes! I decided to do this series because Fall is slowly approaching and we can all start buying pieces that can be worn for the Fall. I decided to start out with curvy body shapes. These are just some tips on what to start looking for and thinking about as clothing is available for the Fall.

Some celebrities that you can look to as a "guide" include: Kim Kardashian, Beyonce and Christina Hendricks.

The main tip that I can give to you curvy divas is this: look for pieces that show off your natural hourglass in jewel tones and timeless neutrals such as belted sheaths, fitted blazers and cinched tops.

For Tops:
  • Think fitted; not tight. You don't want to be overdoing the "view" of your chest.

Fashion Tip | 5 Tips to Flatter Your Figure

Ever wonder how you could flatter your figure and make it work in the most amazing way? Well, here I have come up with five tips to help you make the most of what your body type is whether it's boyish, apple, pear, hourglass and so forth.

Tip #1 - Consider the fabric.
  • Structured materials like wool or cotton create smooth looks that are more forgiving of any bumps or bulges.
  • Pieces anywhere between one and two percent Lycra will shape your figure without being too tight.
  • Clingy fabrics like lightweight silk or chiffon are great if you want to show off your body, but do be careful; they can also highlight those "problem" areas that you want to conceal.
Tip #2 - Find your BEST fit.
  • Body-skimming looks are the most flattering for all body types. Skip pieces that are too tight or require a lot of tugging and adjusting.

Fashion | Treading Peplums

Lately there has been a tremendous amount of influence on today’s fashion from the vintage styles way back when. From high-waisted shorts and pants to corsets to peplums. If you’ve been skimming the pages of a fashion magazines or been attending fashion shows, you will have probably noticed the insinuating amount of peplum silhouettes that are arising for this spring and summer season.

In case you are not too sure about what a peplum is here is some quick background information on it:
A peplum has two distinct and almost separate definitions. In its early origins, Greek, it was simply the word for a tunic. During the 19th century the term was used for a short overskirt that was usually attached to a fitted jacket. To go a little further I’ll give you the Oxford definition of a peplum: “a short flared, gathered, or pleated strip of fabric attached at the waist of a woman’s jacket, dress, or blouse to create a hanging frill or flounce.” This in essence gives a woman a new level and feel of femininity.

The modern peplum became a popular design in women’s suiting in the 1930s and 40s before playing a key role in Christian Dior’s “New Look” silhouette which defined the 50s style. As I could give more detail on the eras, design and use of peplums I’ll jump back to our present day as of spring 2012.

If you were able to watch or attend any of the fashion shows during Fashion Week, you would have noticed that a lot of designers have made use of the peplum silhouette in their designs. From designers such as Jason Wu to Alexander McQueen, the peplum silhouette is a quickly becoming the “it” trend.
